Albert Brown, British Infantryman, 1914-1918
The British Army was small at the start of World War One, but it was well equipped, well trained and armed. The lessons of the Boer War had been put to good use. One of the reforms was the adoption of a simple, practical and inconspicuous uniform of khaki cloth. Also, the personal equipment, with strong cotton webbing, was innovative in both material and its design.
